A friend of mine sent me this:
LifeHouse Theater in Redlands (near San Bernardino)
The LifeHouse Theater in Redlands is the only independent theater that runs year-round in the Inland Empire. It is run by evangelical Christians and is an independent non-profit corporation "committed to producing dynamic dramatic experiences championing the moral imagination as informed by the Judeo-Christian traditions." Although many children are involved, LifeHouse is *not* a juvenile theater.
It's a safe place to see "live" theater productions (usually, but not always, musicals) of pretty good quality. LifeHouse also runs drama, theater dance and theater voice classes for children from 8 yo through young-teens.
Anyway, if this sounds interesting (either watching or participating), you might give them a call. Their number is 335-3037.
To participate in a production, you have to be at least 10yo, and, of course audition (which includes singing). (Be warned, though, if you or one of your children wants to act in a production, between the rehearsals and performances it is a HUGE--I mean HUGE--time commitment.)
The cast prays for one another before every rehearsal, and the producer/directors/other staff are, as a group, godly and gracious.
Here's what the schedule is for this season 1999/2000
Little House on the Prairie Oct 2- Nov
14
It's a Wonderful Life Nov 27-Jan 2
The Round Table Jan 8-Jan 23 (Short
run)
Cinderella Feb 5- Mar 12
The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe Mar
25-Apr 30
Anne of Green Gables May 13 - June 18
Treasure Island (new show)
July 1-Aug 13
Esther! Aug 26-Sept 24.
Ticket prices have gone up since they moved to the new theater (right next door to Redlands Christian School, in the former 1st Christian Reformed Church on Church St in north Redlands). The price of the ticket depends on where you sit:
First
five rows:
Adult--$14 (I think)
Children (3-11; under 3 not admitted)--$9
(I think)
Rows six through nine:
Adult--$12 (I
think)
Children (3-11; under 3 not admitted)--$7 (I think)
Season
tickets (eight shows):
First five rows: Adults $95; children 3-11 $60
Rows six through nine: Adults $80; children 3-11 $45
The theater now has stadium seating, but IMHO rows 7-9 are still kinda far back. (--although, of course, it's not ANYWHERE as bad as being in the peanut gallery at the Dorothy Chandler or the Ahmundson!)
Addition from Grace Blanton:
We went to the play "The Round Table" (in Redlands) and found it brought to life the historical characters Socrates, Martin Luther, Sigmund Freud, Florence Nightingale, Galileo, Darwin, and Theodore Roosevelt in a discussion that offers their fascinating stories, insights and explosive opinions. A great visual learning experience too!

October 21, 2000: Mtn Skies Observatory FULL--e-mail Jean for about an additional possible date.
From Jean : This homeschool field trip will run from 7-9pm. It will be a class on basic astronomy and observatory viewing. Half of the time spent on each. The cost is $5 per child 5-18, $6 per adult, and 4 and under free unless they participate. If they participate the cost is $2.50. It will be a good time to view because both Jupiter and Saturn will be out and the moon will be shaded enough to get a good view. My boss has also asked me to spread the word if some of the homeschoolers 10th-12th grade would be interested in a six week class that would include lab science, report writing, working in a collaborative effort, etc. She is a professional scientist and has a lot to offer. She also mentioned discussion group for different ages that could be done weekly, biweekly, or monthly, let us know the questions or what you are studying on. Dr. Parker has many connections and would be able to get guest speakers, etc. if people are interested enough. If anyone is interested please let me know so that something could be worked out.
Jean needs payment by October 11th for those going to the observatory field trip on Oct 21.

9:30am and ends at 2pm. The cost is $7.50 per participating student 5yrs and up

will not inundate them with evolutionary teaching. Questions? Email Grace. Meet

Big Bear, pass through Running Springs past Running Springs School Rd, then on
right look for a brown log building, the Ultra-Mar is too far. Send payment
postmarked by October 20th to Grace . Bring lunch, jacket, hat, water, notebook,
tennies for no more than a mile walking. I have room in my vehicle for three more
