Explain the water cycle to your students.
They should have a basic knowledge of precipitation, transpiration, condensation,
and evaporation. The museum will do some experiments to demonstrate these concepts.
The outdoor walk goes on a short, steep trail (it is not wheelchair-accessible)
through native flora into Mockingbird Canyon. All visitors need to wear long pants
and comfortable, close-toed shoes for a safe and enjoyable hike. Bring a water
bottle.
The museum will be open for 20 minutes before and after your
scheduled program for viewing the museum exhibits.
The maximum amount
of people allowed to attend is 40. Please RSVP to Karen. TRIP full, waiting list
only.
For Moms only: The San Bernardino Library is hosting a time from 9-1 on Feb. 5, also a Tuesday, for teachers, parents or others interested in attending, to come to a preview of children's entertainers for use in the future. They will have about 30 different entertainers doing very brief shows and talking about themselves, to promote themselves for hire. I have no idea how expensive these people are but thought it might be worth looking into if we ever wanted to have a get together and pitch in for some fun entertainment. I am planning to attend if nothing changes. If anyone else is interested, please let me know. Sharon

This is meant to be FUN, FUN,
FUN! No pressure just good fun. This is NOT A COMPETITION. Have your kids plan
out what they'd like to do that will last only about 5 minutes or for each act
as we may get a large
response.
It can be music, dance, magic or whatever
they enjoy or can develop in the allotted time until show time! Parents should
help the kids practice their routine out loud and in front of a mirror over and
over to help build their confidence and ability. This will be a great way for
our kids to strut their stuff in a positive and supportive environment. There
is enough time to have the kids create a fun costume for the event as well if
they want (Thrift store or homemade to keep the cost down.) We will plan on some
snacks on the day. I don't know if there will be any microphone available so we'll
have to make do. If there is a better location for sound or P.A. system that anyone
knows about, please let me know. To my knowledge, there is no piano in the Gym.
Please RSVP if you want to participate and what you plan to do so I can set up
the agenda.

Wednesday,
May 1, 2002 at 10:30 a.m.: Folk Music Center in Claremont
(www.folkmusiccenter.com).
This is an incredible place. It's a store and a museum under one roof and has
been there since the 50s. It's like stepping into another country walking in their
door!
They do field trips--about 1-1.5 hours, and I've arranged for us to
take a group of up to 40 people. They will demonstrate some really unusual instruments,
and I believe the kids may actually get to play some of them,
with guidance,
too.
It's tight quarters, so please keep careful watch over your children's behavior. There are a lot of delicate instruments within reach of little hands.
I still need to check on it, but the Santa Ana Botanical Gardens are nearby, and that might make a nice picnic spot and place to tour after lunch. More info coming.
Please RSVP to me, mary@homeschoolchristian.com, (909) 337-7391.

Monday,
September 9, 2002: Faith Academy Picture Day for all mountain
homeschoolers as they have in the past, and I just have to add that Brad Human
is a WONDERFUL photographer and VERY reasonable. If you're tight on funds, you
can even put all your kids together in one photo. Last year ID cards for students
and teachers were free--not sure if they will be again, but it's worked for me
to get teacher discounts on more than one occasion!

Aviation Fellowship We've got two field trips booked at the Missionary
Aviation Fellowship's
Redlands location in September! Although they opened
up to a larger group for us (20 younger and 20 older kids on each day). I will
maintain a waiting list if we completely fill up.
For information, see: http://www.maf.org Since they have videos for two different age groups, I broke the group into two trips as follows:
Thursday, Sept 12 10-11 a.m. just about full on the younger kids.
Thursday, Sept 19 10-11 a.m.
Before we go, you might want to pick up the YWAM books on missionary
pilots Betty Greene and Nate Saint. The remains of Nate Saint's airplane are in
the lobby of the MAF building. You can pick up these two titles from my store
($10.49 including shipping from www.HomeschoolEmporium.com/biography) in advance,
or you can make a $10 donation each at the MAF headquarters and pick them up on
the day of your trip. They would probably also ship it to
you if you asked.

My apologies to those also going on the Living Desert. This was the only date that would work for Riley's.
In case you don't realize it, Riley's Log Cabin is different from the other Riley's farm, and I've been on her tour before and it's GREAT. Sharon is the one you meet each year at CHEA. She's got a 4 hour trip planned for us, with sack lunch (you bring or buy lunch) in the middle.
We MUST be there by 9:30, and it will take at LEAST one hour to get there from the Lake Arrowhead area.
We'll start with Dennis Riley's famous fiddling and music. (By the way, did you know that he's one of Lake Arrowhead fiddler Addam Thompson's mentors?)

I will cash your check the day before the field trip. Make them payable to Leggewie Enterprises, PO Box 1004, Twin Peaks, CA 92391. If you have any questions about the total, please e-mail or phone 337-7391. NO REFUNDS. This trip has additional room, please e-mail if you can come. You check needs to be to me two days before the trip so I can cash it then.
Well here it is. I have scheduled a field trip for Friday November 15. You need to be there by 9:30AM sharp. We will enter as a group and I need to collect the entry fee ahead of time. In other words, they want one person to pay them, not fifteen or more. It will be $4.00 a person regardless of the age.
This is a great rate since regular rate is $9.00 for adults and $4.25 for kids. They have presentations featuring up-close encounters with desert animals, plants and the people who care for them. I have heard the show at 11:00AM "Wildlife Wonders", is excellent. I need at least 15 interested kids. Please RSVP as soon as possible. jankevinochs@msn.com
Plan on bringing your lunch and plenty of ice in the ice chest as it gets
warm in the desert. Remember to allow enough time to get there. If you are late,
you will have to pay the full admission price to enter on your own. The Living
Desert is located in Palm Desert\ Indian Wells. You can look them up at www.livingdesert.org
or call them at 760-346-5694 for more information on how to get there or if you
have any questions. Hope to see you there.
Jan
I need your payment by the 29th of October because I have to pay by Nov 1. Make your check payable to Leggewie Enterprises, please. (909) 337-7391, mary@homeschoolchristian.com

10 Fwy east. Exit Whitewater, go left under freeway. Make left on Whitewater Cyn.
Go 5 miles to end of road. $3.00 to get in plus approx. $3.00 per pound of fish
caught. (They will total all our fish caught, aver. fish is 1 lb) So plan on the
day costing us each about $7.00 total. Includes: tour of hatchery, each child
(or adult) gets to catch 1 fish, poles provided (they will clean your fish for
25
cents) picnic area, and there are B.B.Q's if you want to cook your fish.

I talked to Bryan Allen, the manager of the Ice Castle International Training
Center rink on Burnt Mill Road near Lake Arrowhead Village, and he said that the
homeschool group could all come out for a group skate session during the Recreational
Session on Saturday, December 21. The session lasts
from 3-6 p.m. Bryan will
charge each homeschooler (or family members or friend with the group) only $6.00
for the entire session, and this includes skate rental. You don't have to stay
the whole 3 hours.
If you're interested in a nice Christmastime skate, please email me so that I can let Bryan know about how many homeschoolers to expect. We could all try to meet at the rink about ten minutes before 3. My two kids (Jessica and Jonathan) will be there--and Dad, too (though he'll just watch).
Thanks and have a great holiday,
Lonna
