pm. Homeschool meeting at Twin Peaks Calvary Chapel Conference Center.
Would like to get together with other homeschool moms (parents) to discuss field trips, co-op classes, teas, playgroups, and fellowship. I am especially interested in putting together our very own (small) Mountain Homeschool Convention at the end of this school year. Could sell used curriculum, also???
I have worked on this and have info for: (but could use more excited people!)
Please RSVP so I may know how many to plan for. I have permission to use the facility, but need to know about how many for a light snack and drinks.
I don't have childcare planned but, if it is necessary I can arrange it. Blessings, Debbie Spencer "Spencers6 at hotmail.com" (correct e-mail by removing spaces).
Ice skating 3/16/07
Friday, April 13, 2007: Ice Castle homeschool skating 8:30--10 a.m.
This is pretty last-minute, so I need RSVPs NOW!!!!
Friday morning, April 13, 2006, 8:30-10 a.m.: Homeschool Family Ice Skating at the International Training Center in Lake Arrowhead.
I have reserved an hour and a half of PRIVATE ice time for us! I strongly recommend arriving 15 minutes early to get your skates so you aren't wasting ice skating time getting the right skates on. NO "drop-offs." If you can't come, you MUST arrange another parent to supervise your child.
The RULES:
I MUST have your payment AND signed waiver for all skaters (waiver here: http://www.mountainschristian.com/forms/IceCastleWaiver.pdf) by 4/6. If you already have a waiver on file, you do not need to complete another. I will cancel the date if we don't have 50 prepaid skaters by this date. We are getting 1.5 hours of skating including skates for $7.50 per skater. If you have your own skates, it will still cost $7.50 each skater. Spectators are free, but it is chilly -- 45-50 degrees inside with only a small poorly-heated area. If you pay after 4/6 the cost is $8.50 each. SKATE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Your skater should bring warm clothes, and mittens (they can be thin gloves--just something). I personally advise helmets, but they are not required. The only time I have ever been knocked out was ice skating... Bike/ski helmets will work too... They are not available to rent at the rink.
Simple snacks are available for purchase: sodas, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, candy, water, lunch soups, popcorn, chips, etc. It IS OK to bring your own food to private ice time. There is a microwave and toaster accessible.
Please mail your $7.50 per person to: Mountains Christian Academy, PO Box 1004, Twin Peaks, CA 92391
NO REFUNDS: I will refund all money if we have to cancel due to not having 50+ skaters. Otherwise, if the event happens, your money is not refundable after 4/6 (unless I cancel the trip due to lack of interest). If there is really bad weather, they will allow us to reschedule. Please RSVP NOW so I can get an idea if we'll have enough people. It's really important to RSVP early so that we know if we have the numbers we need.
Saturday, April 21, 2007: Civil War Ball at Lake Arrowhead Baptist Church. 4:30-8:30 p.m. be PROMPT!!!
I will need help for this event to set up and clean up. Cost to be determined yet. Children under 8 are not recommended since it's hard for them to follow directions to dance--it's up to you, but please control your children at all times--it can be dangerous if they get danced on! This will be a potluck dinner; paper goods & drinks are provided. Please bring a main dish and either dessert or salad. See last year's photos (click here).
Costumes are optional, but fun! Ladies--wear a dress that spins-- gents, where jeans and a plaid shirt! For girls, it's not that hard to make a skirt--just buy 3-5 yards of inexpensive fabric (the width of the fabric will be the length of the skirt) and sew up a back seam and make a drawstring casing at the waist, hem at the bottom. If you have a costume you can loan to someone, please let me know, likewise, if you'd like to borrow one, let me know that too. MEN... the ultimate thrift store if you want to create a uniform from a suit is the Deseret Thrift store in Colton (all those Mormon missionaries must turn in their suits there!). 3-5 Hooped slips are $25 on ebay from Angel's Bridal--see if you can split shipping with someone ($11.95) and place a group order. I have one 30 hooped one that I can loan.
For men & boys, if you want to be authentic, Mountain Fifes & Drums approved men's uniform is the USA uniform here: http://www.ccsutlery.com/ I believe this is a required purchase for Senior Corps--check with your leader.
Arrowhead Arts "Meet the Orchestra," Wednesday afternoon, May 23 at 1:30-2:45 pm at Calvary Chapel Lake Arrowhead on Grandview Drive in Twin Peaks.
